Key Species to Target
Quebec's most iconic freshwater fish. Found in cold streams, ZEC lakes, and remote Shield ponds throughout the province. Casting spoons and spinners are highly effective.
Best Lures for Trout →Abundant across central and northern Quebec. Structure-oriented and most active at low light. Rocky reefs, river mouths, and current breaks are prime spots.
Best Lures for Walleye →Found throughout Quebec. Aggressive ambush predators that hit large spoons and swimbaits hard. Weedy bays and river mouths are prime habitat.
Excellent bass fishing in southern Quebec lakes and the St. Lawrence system. Smallmouth prefer rocky structure; largemouth favour weedy, warmer water.
Best Lures for Smallmouth Bass →Present in Gaspésie rivers including the Bonaventure and Cascapédia. Most rivers are fly-fishing only and require a ZEC or reserve permit in addition to a provincial licence.
Where to Fish in Quebec

World-class smallmouth bass fishing, especially around the Thousand Islands area near the Ontario border. Walleye and pike also present throughout the system.
Remote northern Quebec. Excellent walleye, pike, and brook trout. Less pressure than southern regions. Many outfitter lodges operate in this area.
La Mauricie National Park offers excellent brook trout fishing in remote canoe-in lakes. The Saguenay region has strong walleye and pike populations.
